One of the artists we will be showcasing in Norfolk by Design at Houghton Hall this summer has been shortlisted to show one of her works in the Royal Academy’s summer show this year.
Congratulations to Pandora Mond who has been shortlisted to exhibit “Sea of Fecundity” at the Royal Academy from 13 June through to 20 August, 2017. Held without interruption since 1769, this Summer Exhibition marks its 248th year.
Pandora writes about these works on her website and says that the titles of these paintings come from the names given to moon ‘seas’. The lunar Maria are large, dark, basaltic plains on Earth’s Moon, formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. They were dubbed maria, Latin for “seas”, by early astronomers who mistook them for actual seas.
Below is a detail of this wonderful painting and another image showing how wonderful Pandora’s work looks in a home or office setting.
